Every summer, masters of Irish Traditional music and dance travel to Washington D. C. joining artists in our own community for a week of celebration, learning, and sharing. A highlight of this gathering is the MAD Week concert on July 24th. And you are invited!
The concert takes place in conjunction with the 14th annual Musical Arts and Dance (MAD) Week Irish Traditional Music and Dance Camp. Preeminent musicians, singers, and dancers from the world Irish music community provide the instruction during the week and perform in the concert.
Featuring the artistry of master fiddlers Brian Conway, Liz Knowles, Mitch Fanning, Joe deZarn, and Liz Carroll (a recipient of the prestigious National Heritage Fellowship,) flute players Josh Dukes and Laura Byrne, concertina master Alex Boatright, hammered dulcimer and tin whistle player Karen Ashbrook, button accordionists Sean McComiskey and Peter Bryce and banjoist extraordinaire Keith Carr. Accompaniment will be ably provided by pianist (and fiddler) Donna Long, guitarists Zan MacLeod and Conor Hearn, and bodhran players Anna Colliton and Jesse Winch.
Songs will be provided by singer and multi-instrumentalist Brian O’Hairt, the only American to win the Sgiath Uí Dhálaigh shield at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann; Eileen Estes; and Maddy O’Neill-Dean.
Joining the musicians will be a stellar cast of dancers including Kate Bole, Sandy Silva, Julia Topper, Elizabeth MacDonald, Kelly Smit, and Agi Kovacs.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the beautiful and powerful music of these Irish music and dance masters. For advance tickets visit http://imtfolk.org. The concerts are produced in conjunction with The Institute For Musical Traditions, the Washington Conservatory of Music, and the O’Neill-Malcom branch of Comhaltas Ceoltiori Eireann and its Award-winning MAD Week program.
